The SACHA mini puukko is the small one in the family. Roughly 95% of all camp chores can be accomplished with a small blade. The mini puukko makes an ideal neck-knife or easily fits in your pocket.
O1 Tool Steel is a low alloy American carbon steel. It has a proven reputation for edge holding and ease of sharpening. Desert Ironwood (Olneya tesota) is a tree that grows in the Sonoran Desert of Northern Mexico and Southern Arizona. It is extremely dense and stable. When polished to an almost glass-like finish, it is unparalleled in durability and beauty.
The full tang construction means the blade extends throughout the handle. This is the strongest way to construct a knife. The handle is held together by two stainless steel corby bolts and top quality American epoxy. The handle features a countersunk lanyard hole. A handmade 5 oz vegetable tanned leather sheath is included with a oil-tanned lanyard designed for wildland firefighter boots.
Care for your SACHA mini puukko
Carbon steel oxidizes when exposed to moisture, acids or bases. This is easily removed with fine steel wool or a Scotch-Brite pad. Keeping a light layer of food-safe oil on the blade will protect it, although some oxidation will protect the blade in the form of a patina. The natural oils of your hands will keep the handle shiny and pretty. Each knife comes with a small tub of of Skidmore’s Beeswax Waterproofing. Apply it to the leather and use the sun or a blow-dryer on LOW heat to really melt it in to the leather and your sheath will stay waterproofed and conditioned.
